Osteoarthritis, or degenerative joint disease (DJD), is a progressive, painful, and disabling problem. It is a loss of cartilage and the death of cartilage-producing cells. DJD can occur in any joint, but is most often found in the hip. It can lead to permanent loss of function.

Signs of this disease could be that the animal takes a little longer to get up in the morning, hesitates to walk long distances, or has a tense lower back. Over time, you may see that your pet is having a hard time moving, and soon you realize that he or she is in pain when walking, jumping, or even sitting up.

Arthritis causes joints to become inflamed and is accompanied by pain, heat, and swelling. It usually results in increasing stiffness and immobility. It doesn't have to mean a poor quality of life for your pet. There are ways you can accommodate your home to help your pet be more comfortable and enjoy life with you.

At Easing Paw Animal Wellness, Healing Touch for AnimalsĀ®, Reiki, and TTouch all can help with arthritis. The Easing Paw approach helps especially with the kind of pain produced by joint problems, hip dysplasia, and arthritis, and can help improve these conditions even without medication.
